Using our expertise in engine management systems, DTI Engineering developed an add-on daughterboard that expanded the functionality of an OEM Engine Control Unit (ECU). Packaging limitations within the original OEM enclosure required us to be creative in our circuit board layout and population density. We designed a circuit card assembly (CCA) and firmware that would interface with the OEM processor data bus. The complete solution added non-volatile memory for parameter storage and UART and serial port for communication.
In order to utilize the added hardware, the OEM firmware was disassembled, reverse engineered, and modified. These changes added the ability for the user to modify fuel and timing parameters, and it allowed all engine sensors to be data logged in real time.
